Important Info

All of our products are hand-painted by skilled artisans in Mexico, making each piece truly one of a kind. Because of this, there may be small imperfections, quirks, or slight color variations—these are natural and a beautiful part of the artistry. Rest assured, we carefully inspect every item to ensure there are no chips or cracks before shipping. By purchasing, you acknowledge and accept these characteristics as part of handmade craftsmanship. Thank you.

How It’s Made (Talavera)

Talavera has its roots in Spain, where the technique developed around the 16th century in the town of Talavera de la Reina. When Spanish artisans brought this style to Mexico, it blended with local materials and Indigenous design influences, eventually becoming what we now know as Mexican Talavera. Over time, places like Puebla became known for keeping this tradition alive.

What makes Talavera special is the way it’s painted. A traditional tin-based glaze is applied first, and the designs are painted by hand directly onto that unfired surface using mineral pigments. Because the glaze absorbs the paint immediately, there’s no room for erasing or fixing mistakes — it takes a steady hand and years of experience. Every brushstroke you see is done freehand.

Once painted, the piece is fired in a kiln. During firing, the colors fuse into the glaze, creating Talavera’s soft sheen and long-lasting color. The small variations you’ll notice from piece to piece are part of the process and a reminder that each one is made by hand, using techniques that have been passed down for centuries.
